Education is an issue that is very close to my heart. As a county commissioner, I fought to raise teacher pay without raising taxes. I’m a proponent of school choice, serving on the board of a local charter school. As a father with two children, I care greatly about their education.
This makes me ask serious questions about the nature of some of the participants in today’s rally in Raleigh, and Dan McCready’s involvement.
For those of you who don’t know, today’s march was planned on “May Day,” an unofficial holiday started by socialists and communists over 100 years ago. In keeping with the tradition, the North Carolina Association of Educators (NCAE) recently changed their logo to an image that traces it’s roots to the IWW, a group made up of socialists, marxists, and anarchists. This “raised fist” logo went on to become a symbol of communist movements the world over, especially in the Soviet Union.
One has to ask what Dan McCready is doing marching with a group of radical leftists under the pretense that they represent “all teachers.” They most certainly do not. Unlike Dan McCready, I’ve actually introduced and successfully passed an initiative raising teacher’s pay.
Furthermore, why is he marching with gentlemen like those seen below?
How about the Socialist Workers Party advocating for amnesty and drivers licenses for illegal immigrants?
What about radicals demanding that we remove law enforcement from our schools, right after a tragic school shooting?
Dan McCready won’t take a position on socialism. In fact, he refuses to take a clear position on anything. I’d like to believe that he believes in American values like capitalism, personal responsibility and individual liberty… but with friends like these, and the radical socialists in Congress, it’s hard to trust him.
As Winston Churchill once said: “Socialism is a philosophy of failure, the creed of ignorance, and the gospel of envy, its inherent virtue is the equal sharing of misery.”
These are not American values.
I care greatly about our teachers and our children’s education. My record proves it. The question we should be asking: Does Dan McCready actually care about teachers, or just pandering to radicals while pretending to be ignorant about it?
